Changbai Mountain
Changbai Mountain is the Geographical coordinates of Jilin. The white capped Changbai Mountain is what people imagine it to be. The annual average temperature is minus 7.3 ° C with snow accumulation from October to June of the following year.

This is a dormant volcano. For 2.77 million years, glaciers and magma have shaped the current form of Changbai Mountain. It originates from the Songhua River, flows into Heilongjiang and outlines the White Mountains and Black Waters.
The vast expanse of forests and the greater and lesser Khingan mountains, surround the Northeast Plain.
The thousands of miles of ice in winter brings to life all the images people have of the scenery of the northern country. 2,691 meters, the height is enough for people to observe from a distance. But those who come here are not satisfied with just staring.
The journey to reach the summit of Changbai Mountain will pass through three vegetation belts. Below 1700 meters above sea level is a mixed forest of coniferous and broad-leaved trees;1700 to 2100 meters is a high-altitude birch forest; Above 2100 meters is the mountainous tundra zone.
In summer, abundant precipitation makes the mountaintop lush with greenery.
In autumn and winter, green fades away and red brown lava is exposed on the surface. The higher the volcanic cone rises, the faster the terrain rises, the steeper the road. 10.2 kilometers, 129 bends.
The volcano is right under our feet. The volcano crater is right above our heads. Tianchi is right ahead.
1000 years ago, after a massive eruption volcanic crater collapsed. This is the largest volcanic crater lake in China with an area of 9.82 square kilometers.
You can see the edge at a glance. But you can’t see the bottom. The average water depth is 204 meters, the deepest point is 373 meters, which makes it the deepest alpine lake in the world.
2 billion tons of water is held by the mountain at an altitude of 2189 meters. The extremely pure water leads to low oxygen content surrounded by exposed rocks and sparse vegetation. So Tianchi does not have the conditions for fish to survive.
Such a crystal clear lake surface is not the norm for Tianchi. Most of the time, it presents itself in a different way. In December, Tianchi suddenly changes color, entering a 7-month freezing period. Ice and snow are its most common appearance. The wind blows up snow and clouds, pervading among the volcanic craters.
Seen from an altitude of 5000 meters, it can even be breathtaking. The latest small-scale eruption in Changbai Mountain occurred 300 years ago. The crustal magma is currently dormant underwater. In winter heat surges up with hot springs. The lake cannot be completely frozen over.
Departing from Changbai Mountain westwards to Jingyu County, which is named after General Yang Jingyu, a hero of the Anti-Japanese United Front. Although the straight-line distance exceeds 100 kilometers, Changbai Mountain still exerts its magic here.
This approximately circular lake is called Sihai Longwan. Groundwater quickly boiled when it met rising magma, causing a series of violent explosions and blowing up a sinkhole on the ground. After storing water, it became a lake.
